The idea came from having problems with my sump pump not working properly and resulting in water in my basement. I wanted to monitor the operation of my sump pump, so that I could determine problems before having to dry vac my basement floor. Behold, the Sump Pump Monitor was born. This project measures real-time AC currents of my sump pump and sends the data values from my WIZwiki-W7500 board to my PC over an ethernet connection. Calculations are made utilizing these real-time measurements to determine sump pump cycles, gallons pumped and the run times. The information calculated is used for data logging and viewing on trends.

After using the “Sump Pump Monitor” to get a real picture of the duty cycle of my sump pump, it’s no wonder why it failed before the warranty. It made me aware and appreciate what the pump was accomplishing due to the frequency of pump cycling. This was a great project and gave me a better sense of security that now I can check my pump past and current operation anytime without going to the basement. Using the WIZwiki-W7500 board made it easy to implement this project since it was easy to program and had many useful on-board functions.
